Deep Puppetry™
Studio Practice
A small-group online studio in relational puppetry and participatory encounter
This newer phase of Deep Puppetry™ is quieter, stranger, more playful, and more spacious than earlier versions of the work.
I’m interested in what happens when figures, materials, movement, and relation are allowed to remain slightly unfinished:
not fully interpreted,
not fully resolved,
not fully known.
Working with simple handmade materials, sparse structures, improvisation, and guided interaction, we’ll explore:
contact before coherence
relational attention
projection and otherness
awkwardness, tenderness, and animation
movement and language before they fully settle
allowing ourselves to be affected without immediately organizing what we encounter into understanding
The atmosphere is less performative than earlier iterations of DP and more like a shared artistic studio: a place for experimentation, perception, play, and relational encounter.
Figures are approached less as characters and more as unstable relational presences.
At times the work may feel:
intimate
absurd
quietly disorienting
playful
unexpectedly moving
Over four weeks, we’ll work through short relational scores and live studio experiments such as:
Almost Someone
One Touch
Stay Nearby
Speak Before It Settles
Care Without Rescue
Let It Refuse
Wrong Distance
Shared Attention
The work unfolds through small repetitions, interruptions, awkward continuities, and return. We aren’t moving through mastery or interpretation but through perceptual refinement inside relation itself.
